Community
For those wanting to buy or rent in a village with a history, it is believed that the first church in Hurley dates back to the 7th century but now stands as St Mary the Virgin, in High Street. Local historians say Hurley was visited by Henry IV and was the home of Richard Lovelace, who sailed with Sir Francis Drake against the Spanish Armada in the 16th century, before being housed by plotters of the Glorious Revolution which overthrew James II in 1688.
Hurley boasts another claim to fame - a picnic scene from James Bond film From Russia with Love was reportedly filmed in the village.
There is a small local general store and a part-time post office, and a doctors' surgery.
Due in part to the popularity of the Hurley village for boaters, there is a good selection of local pubs from a family-friendly franchise to elegant dining in historic premises.
The local cricket club has been running for more than a century and there is also lawn tennis, football and Temple Golf Club. Visitors also stay at Hurley Farm caravan and camping park.
