The Cookhams form a beautiful and popular community set on the River Thames in stunning Berkshire countryside. There are three areas, Cookham Dean, Cookham Village and Cookham Rise and between them they offer a good variety of houses and flats to rent or buy.
Properties to rent or buy include a range of diverse properties from character farms and Victorian town houses to a host of modern properties which some city workers find popular to rent. However, buying a house in the Cookhams remains the most popular option.
Community
Cookham is a vibrant community with an active parish council and various local groups. It is most famous for being the home of artist Stanley Spencer and has a gallery dedicated to his work, and being the setting for Kenneth Grahame's Wind in the Willows.
Much of Cookham is conservation area and National Trust land and there are numerous river and country walks which makes it attractive to families looking to buy a home. Annual events include the Cookham Regatta, Cookham Dean Fete and Cookham Art Club's annual exhibition.
There are two main shopping areas. The High Street in Cookham Village contains several boutiques and a good selection of quality and family restaurants.
Cookham Rise properties centre around a parade of shops, including a grocery store and restaurant, a community centre, and there is a new library with internet facilities.
Cookham Dean has country-style pubs and a local post office/general store. Holy Trinity Church, the parish church, is set close to the river in Cookham Village, and there is St John the Baptist Church in Cookham Dean, and Cookham Rise Methodist Church.
Transport
Cookham is about 15-minutes drive into Maidenhead town centre and Cookham Rise railway station provides a convenient commuter link to Paddington via Maidenhead, as well as Bourne End and Marlow.
