Dorney
Dorney

At the southern-most tip of Buckinghamshire is the leafy and wealthy area of Dorney.

Dorney is a strip of South Bucks which carves into East Berkshire, offering a view of Windsor Castle, riverbanks and large green areas. This all makes Dorney ideal for large family houses - at the last count a third of properties were taken up by families with children, with married childless couples also taking a chunk of the housing.

Well over half of Dorney is detached housing, but of the remaining properties, a third are semi-detached options for buyers and people looking to rent, while another seven per cent is made up of flats.

For those not renting, house prices are among the highest in Buckinghamshire.

At the last count, more than 80 per cent of houses and flats in Dorney have been snapped up by buyers.

Community

Dorney's appeal is largely its open space and water attractions.

There is more than 200 acres of common land and almost 80 per cent of Dorney and Burnham south is green space.

The Thames runs along the boundary to the west and south and Dorney offers a view of Windsor Castle. A fairly recent addition to the area is the Jubilee River, a flood relief measure which runs through Dorney providing riverside walks and water sports.

There are many listed buildings in the local area but the manor house of the magnificent Dorney Court - a Grade I listed building open to the public - is the local jewel and one of the finest manor houses in the country.

Another striking spot in Dorney is Eton College's world-class rowing and flat-water canoeing centre at Dorney Lake, which has hosted the World Championships and is set to be the home for various water sports of the 2012 Olympics.

Community attractions include Boveney Museum, the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, Boveney and St James the Less, Dorney. The local pubs in Dorney date back to the 15th century.

Transport

Dorney offers home owners and renters a country life only 25 minutes from London. There is no train station in Dorney, but nearby Taplow and Burnham have links into the capital and to east and west Berkshire. According to the last census, more than a third of homeowners and people renting houses and flats travelled less than 5km to work and more than two thirds used a car to get to work, while a fair percentage work from home. There is easy access to the M4, which is the main road link from Berkshire into London.

Schools

Dorney County Combined School in Dorney Reach takes children from four to 11, although the vast majority of pupils come from outside the local area. Dorney falls in the catchment area for Burnham Grammar School and Burnham Upper School.
